Baseball Day-Trip Itinerary: Beloit, WI

The Road Ranger Travel Center in South Beloit, IL, is a classic example of Prairie School design.

The author is attending, with a good and old friend, is attending tonight’s Class A Midwest League game between the Beloit Snappers (a Twins affiliate) and Peoria Chiefs (Cubs) in Beloit, Wisconsin.

Here’s a provisional itinerary for the author’s trip. All times are Central.

12:15pm
Buy tickets through Snappers website. Feel moment of exhilarating and dirty pleasure that accompanies all online purchases.

12:35pm
Google “Miguel Sano” and also “Jorge Soler.” Lustily read a half-dozen scouting reports and probably watch videos. Neglect actual work until last moment.

2:15pm
Leave house for bus station at University of Wisconsin’s Memorial Union about seven minutes later than would be ideal. Make up time by running part way.

2:25pm
Arrive, moist in not the sexy way, at Memorial Union.

2:30pm
Depart on Van Galder bus bound for Chicago.

2:33pm
Resume reading John Kennedy Toole’s A Confederacy of Dunces. Feel accompanying shame for not having read book in high school like a normal person.

2:34pm
Develop nausea from reading John Kennedy Toole’s A Confederacy of Dunces on bus.

2:37pm
Begin browsing web aimlessly on iPhone. Feel moment of less exhilarating and more dirty pleasure that accompanies such a thing.

Fall into fitful half-sleep common to bus adventures.

Arrive at Road Ranger Travel Center in South Beloit, Illinois, that doubles as Van Galder bus stop. Meet good and old friend, Tom, who’s driven up from Chicago. Live something similar to — if not precisely — the Good Life.
