What The Heck Is This?!
I know. I know. It’s confusing. Just stay with me. What you see on your computer screen is known as a “Lubie.” Which, apparently, means this:
o MLB Lubies are a break-through line of plush combining clean, charming designs with the irresistible, playable shape of a ball.
o Lubies are insanely cute, adorable softball size, super soft material, for ages 0+ and pure simple fun.
And of course the litany of information doesn’t end there. MLB inquires; did you ALSO know?
* Lubies are pronounced “LUH-BEES”
* Lubies are rated for ages 0+
* Lubies are safety tested and lead free
* Lubies are made from all new material and filled with polyester fiber; surface clean only
* Lubies are roughly the size of a softball, measuring 5″ in diameter
* Lubies come with a little “Did You Know” fact
* Lubies can double as safe, soft and squeezable plush balls – fun for tossing
And of course, the least surprising thing to ever happen ever:
Country Of Origin : China
To be fair to MLB and Lubies and whoever else is responsible for whatever… that… is, the White Sox Lubie shown above is the most disturbingly depressed looking of the entire collection. Most of them look downright happy or even friendly. Which, now that I think of it, might actually be scarier. But nothing is scarier than the fact that this is an Actual Thing, the horror of which words can hardly describe.

I like how some of them make perfect sense – The Rays are a Ray and the Marlins are a Marlin – but many of them do not. The Mariners are a moose? The Phillies get two (boring red and gray versions of the same bear…where’s the phanatic)? Worst yet, the Braves and Indians both lack overtly racist overtones which takes all the fun out of this.
Seems pretty consistent to me. Every team that has a real animal as the team name or as the team mascot gets that animal. Otherwise, you just get a Bear-thing. The Phanatic is not a real animal.
The only exceptions I see are Texas=bull and Minnesota=moose. I guess those are geographical associations, but as far as I know, neither animal is a mascot for that team.
yeah, what the heck are they doing making a Mariners Moose?
Oh wait…

Oh, and the Texas “bull” seems to be a geographical reference, as there is a bull for the Astros too
There are multiple for most teams it seems (MLB.com just doesnt have them all)
I found, a proper Ranger Horse:

As well as a proper Giants Seal plus, a kind of cool (I assume) “KungFu” Panda

There is a Cardinal http://www.backtobasicstoys.com/images/small/sm_8461.jpg and Oriole http://product.images.dreamsretail.com/47-31/47-31020-J.jpg. RedSox have a Clam (which must be a ‘chowda’ reference I guess, for similar geographical reference as the Tex/Hou Bull ones) http://www.sunfanshop.com/Boston-Red-Sox-Lobster-Lubies-_800229266_PD.html but I must admit I dont understand the Phillie Flamingo at all http://product.images.dreamsretail.com/47-31/47-31056-J.jpg
The DiamondBack one is kind of cool

I think the Pirate Parrot and A’s Elephant are, by far, the coolest and if I was a Pirate or A’s fan, there might actually be one in my house for my pup to enjoy. Here is the Pirate
