Video: Twenty-Seven Outs

This is a video, authored my YouTube user ieeebear, of the last 27 outs recorded by the San Francisco Giants in their World Series-clinching Game Five victory over the Texas Rangers.

Here’s a brief scouting report of same video:

Strengths
• Watching the above, one realizes how infrequently one’s able to watch Major League play of any stripe outside one of the major providers of said content — i.e. MLB.com, ESPN, FOX, or a local sporting network. This is a pleasure in itself.

• Related to point No. 1, but also different, is the pleasure of watching Tim Lincecum’s motion over and again. To watch any pitcher in this way would surely provide some joy, and it occurs to me that this might be — again, related to point No. 1 — a popular genre of video were someone to experiment with it in earnest. That said, Brian Moehler is less interesting and features a less mind-effing changepiece than Lincecum.

• Except perhaps for Ranger and Dodger fans, this video allows one the pleasure of vicarious joy.

Weaknesses
• While I don’t know very much about them, it appears to be the case that the band Cold Play, whose song “Fix You” provides the soundtrack to this video, seems quite interested in eliciting dark emotions within the listener. For those who either (a) don’t possess such emotions or (b) would much prefer to push such emotions down into a small pit in or around the stomach area, the addition of Cold Play to this video might be irksome. (Although, it should be mentioned that, even for those who don’t particularly care for the band, this particular song doesn’t interfere with the ability to enjoy the piece.)

• The one-word selections from the player quotes are unnecessary for — and potentially damaging to — the enjoyment of this video.

H/T: Splashing Pumpkins.

I would disagree. This song is a horrible choice. Yea, let’s be emo about game 7. It should be something with ZIP or PAZAZZZ. Ya know? I feel like I’m watching Dawson’s Creek goes to the World Series.
