This Post Will Contain Tanaka’s First Major-League Whiff in It

8:01pm: Below is the footage of Tanaka’s first major-league swinging-strike — what appears to be, not surprisingly, a splitter to Jose Bautista. Much more surprisingly is how it came only after Tanaka conceded his first major-league home run.

Tanaka Baut

7:45pm: The significant delay between the note below and the present one is a product not of Masahiro Tanaka’s lack of ability to induce a swinging strike, but lack of opportunity. Approximately 40 minutes after the scheduled start time of the game, he’s thrown zero pitches. “You can’t always get what you want,” sang the Rolling Stones. “You won’t ever get what you want,” announces life at every turn.

7:13pm: Right now, this post contains only text. Pretty soon — provided the author doesn’t fail the reader like he’s failed so many other people — it will also contain the first swinging-strike recorded by Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka tonight against the Toronto Blue Jays. Pretty soon after that, it will be forgotten by everyone and lay dormant until the heat death of the universe, or probably much sooner.
