Dude, that guy is from Tuvalu, a Pacific island country with a population just over 10K. The only countries smaller in population are Nauru and Vatican City. Hmm, think we could have a three way race with this guy, Country Breakfast, and a monsignor? I’d totally watch that.

Thanks for the explanation. He’s clearly running his heart out. And trying to make his country proud. I feel bad that the title of the video (and this post) are making fun of the poor guy.

Having said that, even with a population of 10,000, I would think they’d have to have a better runner. He doesn’t have the body for it, and his side-to-side hip thing is bizarre.

CORRECTION!
The guy’s name is Sogelau Tuvalu. However, he’s not from Tuvalu (shockingly) but American Samoa (population 55K). And, no, he’s not a runner but a shot putter. He failed to qualify for the shot put but they wanted him to compete somehow so they put him in the 100m. The track events waived the qualification standards for small countries so he was allowed to compete despite clearly not being remotely good enough.

I would still like to see that race. Adding a Samoan to the mix makes it even more interesting. After the race they should walk into a bar.
