Glove News
So, I was reading Dayn Perry’s highly informative post yesterday about putting your baseball hat in the dishwasher. Of course, I had to turn to Google to find out the answers to some burning follow-up questions, like:
(1) Can I also put a glove in the dishwasher?
(2) How about a bat?
When I discovered a truly horrifying piece of news from last summer that doesn’t seem to have gotten the attention it deserves.
WASHINGTON, July 8 (UPI) — Mizuno USA Inc., of Norcross, Ga., is recalling 131,000 baseball and softball gloves due to mold, a federal agency said.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the Mizuno Supreme Series and Ballpark Pro leather gloves were found to have a variety of molds that pose a risk of respiratory infections.
The mold could also be dangerous to consumers with impaired immune systems, the commission said in a statement.
The recall involves six models of gloves that include a white label with the words “Made in Vietnam” sewn to the heel of the glove.
Try as I might, I cannot find any pictures of moldy baseball gloves, but they sound really disgusting. I did, however, mash up two images to create this:
That is a moldy bagel inside a Mizuno glove.

This is why we play our games on spreadsheets and not the diamond, amirite??
I calculate player projections in Excel spreadsheets while typing with a baseball glove.
If that’s the case, then take care my friend not to come across this gloved contagion.

But if we do it from our parents basements as accused then we may be at even greater risk from mold. Our grass allergies are covered, though.
