Download Second Opinion into iBooks for a Better Life

Mankind has often wondered aloud — or in the form of modern epic poems — where the line is exactly between self-promotion and community service. This post seeks to ride that line as one might a 1950 Triumph 6T Thunderbird motorcycle — that is, very stylishly and with seemingly no effort.

The reader might be aware that we at FanGraphs recently released our preseason fantasy guide, The Second Opinion. Given its low price-point and white-hot content, the Second Opinion itself is more or less a gift to humanity.

The reader might also be aware that, unlike last year, we neglected (at first!) to provide a PDF version of same. Reader demand, however, has prompted the Dark Overlord not only to provide a PDF download, but to suggest that a more satisfyingly formatted one might be available next year.

On its own a PDF can be slightly unwieldy — good for printing, certainly, and maybe searching, but not necessarily ideal for reading. However, with iBooks, users of the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch can import the Second Opinion PDF into a considerably more friendly “reader” format. Search functionality also remains available in this form, too, allowing readers to access all player-specific information (in preparation for — or even during, I suppose — a fantasy draft). Furthermore, links to FanGraphs player pages remain active, in the event that readers require deeper statistical information on a player.

So, uh, “Ta-da!” is what I mean to say about all this. And also maybe “What a country!!!”

Call for Annuals! (And Free Items, Generally!)

In just a short amount of time, NotGraphs has distinguished itself for its heady content and hard-hitting reportage.

Now’s your opportunity to participate in this phenomenon that no one in particular is describing as “the most important thing there is.”

“How?” you ask. Keep reading!

The advent of The Year 2011 in Baseball brings with it a litter of baseball annuals and other published materials of the print and electronic variety. We at NotGraphs are interested in reading and shamelessly promoting such items under the guise of a “review.” But before we do that, we need you to send us this stuff for free.

The ways of contacting us are manifold — and many are unrepeatable in mixed company — but the most efficient way is by emailing us at not+tips@fangraphs.com with information about you, your finely crafted product, and other relevant information. We will almost definitely reply without delay. We will almost definitely want your free stuff.

Help Us Help You Help Us Help You

The most attentive of readers will have noticed a slight change in the sidebar here at NotGraphs. If you cast your eyes to the space just above the Recent Stories area, you will notice something entitled Contact the NotGraphs Team. Turns out, our Dark Overlord, David Appelman, has recently used his specific breed of dark magic to create a place where you, reader, are able to communicate vital information to us at Team NotGraphs.

The email address, I’ve been led to believe, very much resembles this: not+tips [at] fangraphs [dot] com.

“What sort of things would I email to this address?” is perhaps one question you’re having. To that I respond: “Any sort of content you find — on the internet, in a book — that you think deserves a home on this most handsome of websites.”

“What sort of content might that be?” perhaps you’re following up. To which I say: “Oh, perhaps some gift ideas or a sweet idea for some t-shirts or a celebration of dipsomania. Really, so long as it has nothing to do with Brett Favre’s — or anyone else’s — beanbag we’re probably all set.”

“Will I be rewarded for my efforts?” is the final thing you’re almost definitely asking. “Yes. But only spiritually. And even then not too much.”

Fin.
