Mustache Watch: Lonnie Chisenhall

Hot GIF: Dancin’ Ron Washington

The thing is, you can’t even be mad at Ron Washington. It was 14-1. And, let’s face it, Ron Washington can dance. Better than most. Actually, Ron Washington needs to dance. And what better way to celebrate a very effective seven and a third innings from Derek Holland than with a little jig? A little Ron Washington two-step? The key, Ron Washington says, is to get your shoulders and ass into it. Let the rhythm do the work. Friday nights, Ron Washington was told time and time again growing up, were made for dancing.

The dance stops abruptly, and Ron Washington continues on his way. He’s got business to attend to. Just another day in the life of Ron Washington. Derek Holland? He enjoyed the show.

H/T: Adam of @lonestarball fame. If you’re ever in Toronto, Adam, I’ll take you dancing.

The Tony Campana Song

This one comes to us from one of our many Midwest correspondents, Ethan Spalding. His latest from the field, via CBS Chicago’s 670 The Score, captures the greatness — did you see that frigging slide? — that is the diminutive Tony Campana.

Enjoy singing that for the rest of the day, and probably the rest of the weekend.

Little Tony. (Tony!)
Tony Campana. (Tony Campana!)
The fastest Cub north of Havana. (Cute!) …

Great Moments in Freddie Freeman and Dan Uggla’s Friendship

Freddie Freeman’s a hugger. You can tell. Dan Uggla knows it. That’s why he’s gently placed his right hand on Freeman’s head. Freeman even uses leg. He’s getting his. He’s Freddie Freeman.

When reached for comment via email by our intrepid Investigative Reporting Investigation Team, Freeman, much to our surprise, replied (emphasis his):

GIF: Angel Pagan Would Like A Moment

Just a second, actually, to shaving cream pie himself in the face.

Now, this GIF isn’t hot, it happened over the weekend, but I, along with my fellow Canadians, was busy celebrating the birth of Queen Victoria. But, anyway, that’s Pagan being a good teammate, right there. Actually, a great teammate. Why should Panda have to do all the work? He went to all the trouble to make the shaving cream pie, and Pagan knows it’s coming, so why shouldn’t Angel chip in, and do some of the heavy lifting? That’s why the San Francisco Giants are winners, a Wild Card contender, and undefeated in games that involve shaving cream pies. You can’t argue with math.

Shaving cream pies for these two Tumblr accounts: Daily Dose of Baseball and And that’s the ball game.

Well, that settles it: I’m done with cocaine.

GIF: Fielder and Cabrera’s Elaborate Handshake

I see six distinctive steps. I just don’t know what two of them are:

1. Five, down low.
2. Backhand five, also down low. Convenient, since their hands are already down there.
3. Lean back, hands in the air, feign surprise; like when you run into an old friend, or are the recipient of some good news.
4. ?
5. ?
6. Forty-four million dollar hug.

At first, I thought steps four and five had something to do with cooking. Salt and pepper? I don’t know, I was hungry. Then, for some reason, I thought about drugs. But, again, I’m not sure. You tell me: What the hell are they doing?

H/T: Thanks for the hot GIF, Beneath This Graveyard Western Sky.

Video: Our Umpiring Problems Are Solved

I don’t know. All I know is that I’m sick of the human element, the blown calls, and helmets taking bad hops and hitting umpires. There has to be another way. It’s probably not D’ump, a combination of a deer and an umpire, but I like that there are people out there — sick people, clearly — who are thinking outside the box.

Video: “Pete Rose Here Now”

From the Worldwide Leader:

I never watched Pete Rose play baseball. He was before my time. What I know about Rose comes mostly from books, most notably Joe Posnanski’s “The Machine.” Look, I don’t know much — I chose to become a journalist, after all. But I know this: Pete Rose belongs in Cooperstown.

The ESPN short makes me sad. Especially Rose’s quotes.

FanGraphs: The Game: Washington Nationals DL Edition

The following comes to us from NotGraphs reader Brian Reinhart — a gentleman’s gentleman, and a nerd’s nerd. By now, I trust you’re all familiar with FanGraphs: The Game. If you’re not, I’ll wait. Brian will, too; he’s polite like that. Anyway, Mr. Reinhart is reporting — and our Investigative Reporting Investigation Team has confirmed this — that a “grittily rebooted edition” of The Game is about to be released. And, well, he had us at “grittily.” Inspiring work, Mr. Reinhart. Thank you.

We are pleased to announce that, following the success of FanGraphs: The Game, beta testing has completed on a grittily rebooted edition, and FanGraphs: The Game: Washington Nationals DL Edition is ready for the fantasy-sporting, slightly-too-macabre public. The rules, as ever, are simple:

1. Every week, participants choose one member of the Washington Nationals whom they believe will make a trip to the disabled list, and specify the injury type.
2. Participants earn 10 points for every accurate prediction, as well as 5 points for specifying the correct injury type but the incorrect player, and 3 points for identifying an injured player but forecasting the wrong affliction.
3. It is possible to earn 5 points for accurately predicting a setback to a previously-DLed player.
